Q&A with Tanna Clark – Professional Organizer

Tanna-clark Tanna Clark, Professional Organizer
Complete Organizing Solutions
Organizing in the Greater Nashville area and online!

1) How long have you been a professional organizer?
I have been organizing what seems like all my life! I became a professional and started Complete Organizing Solutions 3 years ago.

2) What inspired you to become a professional organizer?
I can't say that I have always been perfectly organized. I have had my trying times. I did realize from a young age that I enjoyed helping other people organize their spaces. As I grew older I found that I had a passion for learning more about why people let their spaces get disorganized in the first place. In 2006 I discovered "professional organizing" and decided to take the plunge into starting my own business to help others.

3) What is the most common organizing project you’re hired to do?
Paper and closets. I have had quite a few clients that have homes that look immaculate however when you open cabinets and closets the truth lies waiting to spill out. They haven't learned how to manage the clutter, yet simply found ways to hide it.

4) What is the most common organizing challenge people have?
Getting started! It is overwhelming to look at the big picture and not know where to get started. I've seen a lot of clients get stuck at the inner dialogue. They think about it and tell themselves they will get to it and the more they think about it instead of doing the anxiety rises. Then they give up without moving a thing.

5) If you had to pick ‘your’ biggest organizing challenge, what would it be?
Managing my time. I think about the simpler times when my Grandmother was my age and wonder what it was like. Today we are busier than ever and information is being spewed out at us at an alarming rate. We live in times where we can get something almost in an instant and we have to figure out how to manage it all. Being a small business owner and mother of 3 has it's blessings and time pitfalls!

6) What one tip would you give to people who are trying to get organized?
Ask for help! You can hire an organizer or have a friend come over. Going through the daunting task of sorting papers and trudging through tough memories goes by so much quicker and easier when you have someone to help.

People are generally embarrassed by their clutter and the last the they want to do is share it with someone else. But having someone with an outside perspective can help you make sense of it all. We have all been there in some form or another.

The benefit of hiring a professional to help you is to get to the root of the problem and find a solution that will work for you. Organizing is not one size fits all. What works for a friend might not work for you, we can help you wade through the options and set up systems that work for you and your family.

7) What’s the most unusual item you’ve seen a man or woman save?
Fortunately, nothing too outrageous yet.

8) How can potential clients get in touch with you?

Appreciating the commitment you put into your site and detailed information you present. It’s nice to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed information. Wonderful read! I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.
