At the first of the year – I decided to (once again) tackle the goal of eating healthier, exercising more and in general trying to be more fit. Jazzercise is my exercise option of choice. Every year during this time they run a weight reduction program called “Jazz it off” that offers moral support and tips on a how to achieve this very thing that I’ve set out to do. One thing they stress in addition to exercise is portion control and making wise food choices. A healthy plate of food is colorful and can be divided into 3 sensible sections. ¼ is meat/protein (no more than 3-4oz. or the size of the palm of your hand) ¼ is a healthy whole grain, and the other half would ideally be made up of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Rubbermaid divided food storage containers lend themselves beautifully to creating just such a plate! The 3 compartments are appropriately sized and help me easily prepare a healthy lunch.
Here are a couple of sample lunches: Salad, tuna, and multi-grain pretzel sticks.
Salad, grapes, multi-grain bread with low fat American cheese.
