One [simple] green thing that some places are doing that spreads their brand name and saves consumers money is offering incentives for reusable cups. Zoe's Kitchen is a case in point. They offer branded reusable/travel cups for purchase (= distributing brand material that communicates their value in green initiatives), and when you bring it back (repeat visits for them), you get a refill on the cheap (savings for us).
At Zoe's a regular size soda (16-20 ounces or so) is $1.79. The reusable cup is 32 ounces and costs $2.10 – only 31 cents more…but (here's the best part) the refills are only 99 cents! BOO-YAH!! So this means that when I go to Zoe's, I get my huge travel cup filled with 32 ounces of delicious diet coke for a buck. Love the savings, love the green-ness of not using another disposable cup.
I keep the cups on my desk to remind me to use them – if I'm headed to Zoe's for lunch or for other beverages at work so stay away from the disposable cups.
Are you wondering why I have two of them? It's because one time I went, forgot my cup, and just bought another one. Now, if one is dirty or makes its way to my house, I still have a backup
