Totally FREE Closet Makeover

I hear a lot of comments through our FaceBook page and Twitter account about people complaining that they cannot organize because it costs money. And while we do sell some pretty awesome organizing products, organizing doesn't always have to involve purchasing things. Don't believe me? Well, here is my closet makeover I did purchasing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I did not even use anything free from the office or somewhere else in my apartment.

How did I do it? Well I started with this mess:

My main problem was that my purse organization system I had been using had broken. So they ended up in the floor of my closet. My shelves at the top of my closet were over running with clothes because I had no room to hang them. My suitcases were being used and not put away because I under estimated my laziness when I stored and organized them before.

To solve this, I used the four pile principle (that states to take everything out and either keep it, store it, donate it or toss it) and sorted through all my belongings and clothes in my closet. At the end of the process, I was able to let go and donate a good percentage of my clothes that no longer fit or I did not like (and thus never wore).

Once I had sorted, I realized that all my belongs would fit with plenty of room. There was no need to install a HomeFree closet system (which is pretty awesome anyway) or use any other products.

So here is my organized closet! It might not be the prettiest thing ever, but it is functional and wonderful to me 🙂

If you want specific advice on how I organized specific things in my closet (purses, scarves, clothes, earrings, necklaces, gift wrapping supplies) leave a comment and I can write a blog post specifically about that.

I mostly use Smart Balance Wheel during life.I much like the comfort and ease and fashionth it provides, plus they are really incredibly stylish/trendy.The issue that is not terrific is the high price. I however imagine they are way overpriced…lucky for me, I received mine as being a present.

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin

I LOVE the idea that one can organize their closet WITHOUT spending a dime. My biggest issue is organizing my purses, belts, scarves & other accessories. PLEASE HELP!!

      Hi Frantonia,

Thanks for reading our blog. I truly believe you should “freely” – aka de-clutter – your closet at least (twice is better) a year. I find accessories are the hardest items to organize. For scarves, I use open bins and pull a bit out the scarf over the edge so I can see them all and remember what I have (and wear them!). I have also seem people use simple hangers to hang multiple scarves which seems to work well. For belts, you can us a hanger again. I personally use a belt organizer I found at Ikea. It is supposed to hand in your closet but I rigged it with command hooks to hang on my wall behind my bedroom door. I can quickly see and grab the belt I want that way.

Oh, purses! I have not truly figured out how to organize them. I just place them on a shelf. I have added a small bin for wallets and small clutches so they don’t get lost. If you figure something out, let me know!

      I hope that helps!

    Hi Sara,
Thanks for reading and commenting. The 2nd hang rod sounds like a fabulous options for people who need more space! There are also a ton of different ways to organize your clothes in the closet. Organizing by color would personally drive me insane yet my dad thinks I am crazy for not doing so. I personally organized my clothes by work or casual then broke it down by pants, skirts, short sleeve, medium sleeve and long sleeve because that is how I decide what I should wear in the mornings!

I find it easier to organize everything by color. On one side of my closet is shirts then dresses, on the other side, pants, jeans, and sweaters. Makes it easier to find something when you know what color you want to wear.
I also have a 2nd hanging rod below my tops (that I bought at target for about $10) and clear shoe boxes that I got from target in a bundle of 5/$6
