I decided yesterday afternoon (after searching for a piece of information for 7 minutes in my hanging files) that it was time to re-organize my files.
It has been two years since I started here at Rubbermaid and my responsibilities and job has changed and grown during that time. How I use to think and file things is not the way I think about my job now (as I found out after searching for 7 minutes for something). Plus, my files had become bulky and it was time to recycle some old paper! This is a classic example how you sometimes have to re-work your organization system as your life changes.
My set up for files still works for me.
A) I have a file holder on my desk for active projects or reference material I use often. I use my handy Dymo labeler to make labels quickly and easily for new projects.
B) I have a drawer in my desk for old projects and items I do not reference often. This was the area that needed cleaning. The first thing I did was look through all my files and recycled/shreded the items I no longer needed. This made the drawer so much easier to navigate.
I then tested out a new product I found at NAPO which I absolutely LOVE. It is called Filertek from The Pencil Grip Company. These cool file labelers are little dry erase boards so if I ever want to change the name of my filing system (which I do quite often), it is easy! Plus, I no longer have to keep up with the tiny pieces of paper that are required to use for other file labelers. Bonus, they are easy to move around on the folder so you can create a step system in a file drawer to easily see the labels. I cannot wait to take some home to use to re-organize my important document folder at home (post to come!).
