Every health magazine I’ve ever read has told me to "drink more water”. The problem is that I just don’t like the taste of plain water. I need some flavor to enjoy consuming it at home or on the go. To improve my water intake, I’ve decide to make my own naturally flavored water and store it in my fridge using Rubbermaid’s Carafe.
I've experimented with a number of recipes using lemon, limes, mint, honey and ginger. My favorite is a mix of lemon and limes, but here's another twist on lemon & lime by adding mint: 1 Large Lemon, 2 Limes and 2-3 sprigs of Mint (make sure to wash all thoroughly). Cut the lemon and lime into wedges and lightly squeeze some into the juice into the container and toss in the cleaned mint into the Carafe. Now just add filtered water and place the full Carafe in the fridge!
I love going into my fridge and seeing this beautiful Rubbermaid Carafe full of color and taste! This has been a great trick to get me to drink more water at home and it makes me feel like I’m at a fancy resort. Also I can easily fill up a Rubbermaid reusable water bottle from the Carafe for tasty on-the-go water!
Please share some other tasty water flavoring recipes and ideas!

My favorite way to flavor water is with slices of fresh cucumber. I don’t have a recipe – I just take a quart of filtered water and add maybe 1/4 of a cucumber, sliced thin. I pop it in the fridge overnight and next day, a really refreshing flavored water is waiting.
I love your idea but have a small problem. In the past I tried putting a lime in my water. If it was in the glass very long it became BITTER. Do you have this problem?
Deborah- thank you for the tip!
Hi Kim,
Thanks for the comment and question. In a large carafe, I find that my taste buds prefer to replace the fresh fruit every one to two days, otherwise the taste begins to change. I often add a slice or two of lime to my Rubbermaid water bottle every morning before work and refill throughout the day with good results.
Wow – i actually have 6 limes someone left at our house and I was just thinking I needed an idea or else they’d go bad!! Totally making this RIGHT NOW. Thanks for the tips, Leigh!
