How do I organize the person I live with?

That’s a great question. Here’s what you need to do first – understand and accept that you can’t! BUT, there are a few things you can do to make like a bit easier for everyone involved:

  1. Agree to keep common or shared spaces neat and organized, like the guest bathroom, kitchen, living, and/or dining areas.
  2. Decide where certain items will live (e.g., placemats will always live in the kitchen drawer on the left side of the fridge), and agree to consistently put everything back where they belong.
  3. Create reasonable house rules and let everyone pick the chore they will be responsible for.

And, when you can’t stand seeing how messy their room is, close the door!

Deb always seemed to have a knack for putting things in order, and started re-designing her mother’s room at the age of nine. Fast forward several years later and you’ll find her helping clients get more organized and comfortable in their homes and offices. Check out her website at D. Allison
