What’s the best way to organize my jewelry? The jewelry box just doesn’t work–too small and I cant see my jewelry.

You’re in luck as the options are endless for displaying jewelry so that it’s accessible and easy to manage–and most solutions are budget friendly to boot. You’ll first want to ask yourself these questions to assess and determine your best storage options.

  • How many necklaces do you have? Are they mostly delicate, mostly costume (chunky) or a good mix of both?
  • How many bracelets do you own? Again, approximate style and type so that you can determine the best way to store.
  • Last but not least, sort your rings, earrings and any other baubles using the like with like organizing principle.

Once you have a handle on your jewelry collection, determine whether you want your precious stones on display or hidden behind closed doors. For jewelry on display, use decorative or easy-to-remove hooks for your necklaces and bracelets. For the chunkier pieces, you may want to go with larger hooks and use dainty hooks for your delicate items. Hooks placed in a row will work great in the bedroom, bathroom or closet—and depending on the type of hook, your display can multi-function as a wall decor. Earrings and necklaces are kept neat and tidy in decorative trays or even a tiered cupcake tray.

Jewelry that is tucked away is often best housed in jewelry organizers that are easy to access (the top of a dresser or bureau in the bedroom). My jewelry is stored in the top of a large (but shallow) desk drawer using decorative ramekins and miniature plates. Get creative with this option as you can use ice trays, drawer organizers, or DIY your own containers. You might also consider a standing jewelry cabinet that pulls double duty as a piece of furniture if you’ve got the space.

Beth Zeigler knew she was on an organizing path when at the age of 5 she was maximizing her closet space to function as a second bedroom for her dolls. Throw in her background of delegating tasks to her younger brother throughout childhood–and her transition to organizing developed quite organically. Check out her web site at Bneato!
