Moving often comes with its own set of challenges–the biggest being that it’s expensive to pack up and move every year. One way to cut costs is to figure out a way to not have to buy moving boxes each time you change addresses. Here are a few ways to keep packing costs low while keeping eco-friendly during the process.
1. Check out sites like Craigslist and FreeCycle. Folks that have just moved often put up their boxes to pick up for free on these websites so that they don’t have to use their entire recycling bin for broken down boxes.
2. Ask your local stores to save boxes for you. Grocery stores will often set aside boxes for you if you ask. Call or stop by ahead of time to start stock-piling for your impending move.
3. U-haul Box Exchange. U-haul has created a message board allowing you to search by location for free boxes in your area.
4. Bookstores and Copy shops have small boxes perfect for packing books and heavier items.
