Organizing Non-Profit Mary’s Room

If you remember waaay back to January (wow this year has flown!), we launched the Give the Gift of Organization contest asking you to nominate a person or group who is making a difference in their community. Well, a non-profit called Mary’s Room (see the entry here) won. Over the past few months the Rubbermaid team and Professional Organizer Jill Annis from Simply Organized, LLC have been  planning with Mary’s Room for the makeover.

Now we are traveling up to Watertown, Wisconsin on TUESDAY to begin the makeover. We’re super excited.

So what will we be organizing? Mary’s Room provides baby supplies to local families in need. We are helping set up a new, totally organized shopping space for the families to come in and browse for what they need. We’ll be organizing baby clothes (newborn to toddler sizes), maternity clothes, diapers (of all sizes), wipes, baby lotion, baby wash, bottles and bottle brushes along with larger items like Pack ‘n Plays, cribs and car seats.

How are we going to do all this (and in only two days)? With a great team and an awesome plan. I’ll introduce the team first:

Jill Annis – Jill is a professional organizer from NAPO. She started her business Simply Organized, LLC in 2002 and has been dedicated to making positive, life changing transformations ever since. She is passionate about organizing and is an upbeat person. I am very excited to be working with her! She has already made some great tips like using hooks to hang some of the larger items on the wall in Mary’s Room to maximize space and make shopping easier.

Me, myself and I – Erin Gentry. I have been a blogger here for 3 years, organizing and reorganizing/recleaning (when life gets a little hectic) my spaces. I know the value of creating a simple, easy solution when organizing so you (and others around you) can keep up with it. I am super excited about the plan for Mary’s Room and am so glad we can help make a small difference in someone’s life!

Travis Simon – Travis is our closet expert extraordinaire! He’s great at recommending exactly how much shelving you’ll need and all the tools you’ll need to correctly install your closet system. He’s going to be our all around handy man and does everything with a sincere smile and calming grace.

Gretchen Walsh – when asked to join the project, Gretchen’s response was “Sure! Well of course I’ll help.” And that is her attitude. She can dig right into anything and does it with a laugh and funny comment. I am so glad she is coming along.

And of course, we are going to have awesome volunteers from Mary’s Room. AND if you are in the area, you can help to by donating items to Mary’s Room such as diapers, wipes, baby wash, baby lotion, bottle brushes, children’s socks in toddler sizes, toddler clothing, Pack ‘N Plays, car seats and crib mattresses.

The Plan!

The main plan for Mary’s Room is to group like items together in zones to create a nice shopping flow. You can see the plan below!

We’ll be Facebooking, blogging and tweeting during the makeover. Is there anything in particular you would like to see from the process?
